Weapons Beats Freakier Friday at Domestic Box Office Earning a Brilliant $42 Millions
Last week we shown the Weapons Vs Freakier Friday Previews Box Office and Weapons was clearly winning the race. The same was proved by Zack Cregar’s movie “Weapons”, released this weekend. The movie topped the box office with $42.5 million earning. This is the second time this year that an original horror movie has reached the number-1 box office. Earlier, in April, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” also performed brilliantly and earned $45.6 million.

Warner Bros. Magic: The Right Formula for Horror Movies
According to Paul, senior analyst at Comscore, both “Weapons” and “Sinners” are distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, which has found a great formula for making big horror hits. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN, has delivered several successful films in the horror genre over the past few years.
“Weapons” has also surpassed Krieger’s previous hit “Barbarians” (2022), which earned $40.8 million at the domestic box office. Weapons has got 95% positive rating on review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes whereas “Sinners” has a 97% positive rating. “When horror movies get good reviews and buzz, they can do very well at the box office,” Dergarabedian said.

At number two at the box office this weekend was Disney’s “Freakier Friday”. Freakier Friday box office earning this weekend was $29 million. The film is a sequel to the 2003 hit “Freaky Friday,” a fantasy comedy that grossed $193.1 million adjusted for inflation.

“Weapons” and “Freaky Friday” together performed well at the box office, registering a 7.6% increase over the same period last year, bringing the total box office collection to $5.6 billion so far this year, according to Comscore data.
Other Most Awaited Hollywood Films Box Office Condition “The Fantastic Four” performance falls, “Bad Guys 2” and “The Naked Gun” also lag behind.
- Disney and Marvel’s superhero film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” dropped 60% in its third week to third place. It earned $15.5 million this weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $230.4 million.
- Two films released last week—the animated family film “Bad Guys 2” and the comedy “The Naked Gun”—remained in fourth and fifth places respectively. “Bad Guys 2” earned $10.4 million while “The Naked Gun” earned $8.37 million.

Fandango’s analytics director and Box Office Theory founder Shawn Robbins said, “It was a great weekend at the end of summer.” He further said that Disney’s next big films are coming at the end of the year—”Zootopia 2″ on November 26 and “Avatar: Fire and Ash” on December 19. These films are expected to perform well at the box office.
With the duality of horror and comedy, the audience got double entertainment this weekend. In this OTT era, these movies have proved that if the films are good, the audience does not hesitate to come to the theaters. Whether it is a horror film like “Weapons” or a light comedy like “Freaky Friday”, the audience liked both. Hollywood should now consider that original stories and better production are the keys to success.
