Early Life, Family and Background
Basically Vidyut belongs to Jammu and Kashmir. Vidyut Jamwal was born on December 10, 1980. His father was an army officer. Being an army kid, He has to move from place to place due to transfers of his father. Jamwal spent a good part of his childhood in his mother’s ashram in Palakkad, Kerala. It was his mother’s ashram trained in Kalaripayattu in Palakkad, Kerala where he was first introduced this ancient Indian martial art.
Travelling to over 25 countries by the time he was a teenager, Jammwal performed live action shows and trained in various martial art forms. He finished his schooling from Army Public School in Himachal Pradesh, after which he relocated to Delhi to pursue a modeling career in 1996. After a few years of struggle, he got his big break in films when he was cast as the antagonist in the Telugu movie Sakthi in 2010.

Having trained in Kalaripayattu from the age of three under his mother’s guidance, Vidyut Jammwal is well-versed in numerous martial art forms. From Muay Thai to Krav Maga, he has learned from martial arts experts across the world. His immense fitness which involves weight training, hardcore cardio and gymnastics has meant that Jammwal can perform jaw-dropping action sequences without the use of stunt doubles.

Commando- A Turning Point in Vidyut’s Career
His first lead role came with Commando in 2013, which showed off his exceptional martial arts talent. After Commando’s success, Vidyut appeared in a varied range of roles – as a sniper-cop in Bullett Raja, a supporting character in Anjaan and the lead in action-thrillers like Junglee, Commando 2 and Commando 3.
Not restricting himself to only action, he also portrayed varied characters in movies like the period crime drama Baadshaho, the drama thriller Khuda Haafiz and the friendship story Yaara. Currently his most awaited movie is Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2.

In 2020, Vidyut lashed out at Disney+Hotstar for giving preferential treatment to bigger films over his movie Khuda Haafiz’s digital release. He criticised the OTT platform’s move to publicize movies like Laxmmi Bomb, Sadak 2 and others while sidelining Khuda Haafiz.
He was also mired in controversy when his film Commando 3 showed a sequence where 40 wrestlers bully some schoolgirls, before Vidyut beats them up. Many felt Indian wrestlers were shown in negative light inaccurately. Vidyut later issued an apology stating no disrespect was intended.
