When Did Emma Watson Cross Speed Limits?
On July 31 last year in Oxford, Emma was found driving her blue Audi car at a speed of 38 mph in an area where the maximum allowed speed was 30 mph. Due to this, she was found guilty of breaking the traffic rules. Surprisingly, even before this incident, nine demerit points had been already added to her driving license for rough driving.
Heavy fine imposed on Emma Watson, did not appear in court
High Wycombe Magistrate Court ordered Emma Watson to pay a total fine of £1,044. However, the 35-year-old Hollywood actress did not attend the five-minute hearing on Wednesday. On her behalf, lawyer Mark Haslam told the court that Emma is currently studying creative writing at Oxford University and is able to pay the fine.
Emma Watson started her masters studies at Oxford University in 2023. Prior to this, she has been active on issues such as women’s rights and environmental protection along with acting.
Another Harry Potter star! Zoe Wanamaker also Banned From Driving
Interestingly, on the same day and in the same court as Emma Watson’s case, a speeding case was also run against another actress from the Harry Potter series, Zoe Wanamaker. Zoe played Madam Hooch in the films.
76-year-old Zoe Wanamaker was accused of driving 46 mph in an area where 40 mph limit was permitted on the M4 highway in Newbury, Berkshire on 7 August 2024. She was also fined £1,044 and her driving license was suspended for six months.
Zoe’s lawyer Duncan Jones told the court that she is not seeking any special exemption and has accepted the fine. Like Emma, Zoe also already had nine demerit points on her license.
District Judge Arvind Sharma added three additional points to the driving licenses of both Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker. With this, both will not be able to drive for six months.
