The Old Guard 2 Movie Review: Full of action and emotion, but is it as explosive as the first film? Here is the Reality
It was a delight to watch The Old Guard Movie when released in 2020. The movie provided a refreshing experience to the audience who was facing a tough time during COVID lock-down. The film had everything with a great mix of action and drama. Now The Old Guard 2 is available to watch from its release date from July 2, 2025. But has it lived up to the same standards set by brilliant performances of Hollywood actresses Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne made it memorable? You will get to know in the next few minutes.
The Old Guard 2 Story : Did new Villains and Old pains bring Freshness?
Greg Rucka who is the writer of the the second part of the film has put all required efforts and hard work to make the film better in all aspects. The story of The Old Guard 2 begins right after the first film. Andy (Charlize Theron) is no longer immortal, and her team has been joined by new member Nile (Kiki Layne). Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) has been called back after 100 years in exile. But the peace doesn’t last long.
The film opens with a blistering action scene where Andy and her team try to stop weapons smuggling at a villa in Croatia. This scene gives the film a strong start.
The mystery of Quynh: Did 500 years of torture change her?
The most interesting aspect of the film is the introduction of Quynh (Veronica Van). She was thrown into the sea in an iron coffin 500 years ago on charges of witchcraft. Being immortal, she has repeatedly died and come back to life, but the pain of drowning each time makes her more ruthless.
Is Quynh now out to take revenge on Andy?
Quynh’s character is emotionally challenging, and Veronica Van plays it brilliantly. Her old friendship and later animosity with Andy adds depth to the story. But does this relationship fully unfold? Some questions remain unanswered.
The Old Guard 2 Movie Scenes

Action scenes: Like the first film, The Old Guard 2 is fully packed with action scenes. Whether it’s a sword fight in a villa in Croatia or a melee in the streets of Rome, Theron and Layne’s passion shines through in every scene.
Car chase scenes: The film has a great car chase scene where Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) escape the guards in a vintage sports car. The scene is extremely thrilling like Mad Max: Fury Road or Fast and Furious.

Though the scene is entertaining, it is not as memorable as the truck scene in the first film. Still, it is enough for action lovers.
